World Cruise 2915
Stan and Karen Hill
THE VOYAGE BEGINS
By Stanley G. Hill, Jr.
We left home under bright sunny skies for Denver International
Airport. We were greeted warmly by security as we unloaded our
pile of luggage at the departure’s Ticketing/Check-In door.
After our trip to Antarctica last
year, there was a déjà vu moment
when our plane rolled up to the
gate—painted with penguins.
It was cloudy as our plane
descended over anchored
freighters in San Francisco
Bay (waiting to unload cargo)
and landed at San Francisco
International Airport.
We planned several days to visit before boarding our buoyant
abode of the next three months. However, a “pineapple express”
brought much needed moisture to drench California. We discussed
rising early to watch our ship arrive at sunrise through the Golden
Gate, but there wasn’t much point with the fog and rain.
There was intermittent
sunshine the last day and
gardens appreciated the
moisture.
We had terrific hard rain
driving into San Francisco,
which eased just as we
approached the Golden Gate
Bridge.
We had just a light
sprinkle walking the
few blocks from the
car rental to the ship.
