Senate Meetings
- A new question about the New Vic project was drafted and asked at Senate this week.
- McGill’s new Policy on Academic Freedom has been made available to the public for
consultation. Please check your student emails for a chance to submit your feedback
directly to the University, or feel free to email it to me.
- There is a new Policy on the Use and Quality of the French Language being voted on this
week. Despite the alarming nature of Bill 96 for international and anglophone students,
these new regulations will not impede the ability of these students to use their preferred
language in any McGill context. However, since the broader implications of Bill 96 do
impact students, I will be asking about provisions McGill is taking to support students in
their lives outside of McGill amidst the new language law.
Senate Caucus
- GSV harm reduction working group at Senate Caucus has shifted focus from OSVRSE
accountability to SACOMSS restructing/reform. We are meeting with them next week. If
you’d like to give feedback on your experience with SACOMSS this year, an anonymized
survey will be released this week by both SSMU and AUS.
Committees
- Most Senate subcommittees have been pretty slow this semester so far.
- I sit on the Committee on Enrolment and Student Aairs (CESA), the Committee on
Student Services (CSS), the Senate Committee on Physical Development (SCPD), and
the Committee on Student Grievances (CSG). Should you have any questions about the
specific functions of these committees or ideas to bring to them, please set up a time to
meet with me!
