Russian Undergraduate Students’ Society (RUSS)
Departmental Report - March 15th, 2023
Events
Our VP Events hosts regular, interactive events throughout the semester in which students
can practise their Russian skills and interact with peers in a fun environment. We’re glad to
note that this semester we’ve seen a lot more students at our events than the previous
semester!
- Translation Club is held every Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Language Lounge
(Sherbrooke Room 389).
- Russian Conversation Clubs and Movie Nights are held on an alternating basis on
Fridays at 6 pm in the Language Lounge.
- Russian Evening will be held at Thompson House from 6:30 PM on April 12th. It’s
our largest social event, spotlighting Russian literature and culture. It features
performances in Russian by students.
- Events held on a non-regular basis are communicated through our RUSS Listserv
emails, Instagram posts and Facebook posts.
Academic
The Russian Help Desk is held every Monday from 1:30-4:30 PM in the Redpath basement
(Cyberthèque) in which a graduate student at McGill provides academic support and test
review for Russian language students.
Finance
Our VP Finance has been in contact with the AUS VP Finance and our budget has been
submitted and approved.
Communications
Our VP Communications sends out weekly Listserv emails about upcoming events,
opportunities, and other important information.
External
We continue to communicate with the other language student associations to coordinate
projects and social events. An LLC Meet-up is planned for March 23rd.
