
General Updates:
● First DESA meeting of the semester happened on Sunday, the 15th; many new projects in the
works
● First two general listservs of the semester have gone out
● The Department of English is currently in the process of filling the open position in African
American and/or African Canadian Literature and has chosen four finalists. Over the next two
weeks, the department is hosting teaching demos, research presentations, and student discussions
with the four finalists. Students are invited to participate!
● Merchandise pick-up is being organized for those who ordered and paid last semester
● First-Year Listserv has gone out, including a Bingo with prizes
● Creative Writing Workshop is continuing from last semester on Wednesdays at 6
● DESA Office Hours starting soon!
Upcoming Projects:
● Book Club to be advertised with first meeting on January 31st, book selected is Beloved
● Law + English edition of DESA’s Job Talk series is happening, ARTS W-120 is booked for
February 2nd at 6pm
● Wine & Cheese is being planned, dates are being submitted to professors to see their preference,
most likely will be held in early February
● Degree Planning Workshop to demystify the audit sheet is being planned for the same week as the
Wine & Cheese
● Another book sale is being planned, Valentine’s theme possible!
● A podcast featuring English students is also being planned
● Honours Symposium with additional smaller events for Honours students to get together are
being planned
