The U.S. Probation Office for the Northern District of California invites applications for unpaid
internships with its branch office in Oakland, California. The interns will provide assistance to the
office under the guidance of a supervisory probation officer.
Representative duties include the following:
• Collaterals: Interns will receive collateral assignments, retrieve documents from the various
court venues for their own assignments as well as for other officers if needed. Interns will
learn how to read criminal records, verify criminal history, and respond to requests in writing
(in guideline format).
• Review Cases: Interns may be responsible for reviewing a select number of cases from
the uncovered caseload to monitor compliance with Monthly Supervision Reports
(MSRs) and financial obligations and report violations to the Supervisory U.S. Probation
Officer (SUSPO).
• Work with Unemployed Offenders: Interns will assist offenders in offender job search
which may include the following: Writing resumes, reviewing job applications, monitoring
job search logs, conducting mock job interviews, assisting offenders in identifying potential
employers, and assisting in Internet job search.
