Virtual Learning Expectations
Benton Elementary Schools
2020-21
Virtual learning is an option for any Benton Public School student. If you chose virtual learning for your child,
you may choose to move your child to onsite at any time that virtual learning is no longer an option for your
family. This document is to give you a better understanding of what virtual learning is and the expectations
for students and staff.
If your child participates in virtual learning, a device will be provided for school use. All the information your
child needs to be engaged in learning will be provided through Google Classroom. Your child will be
assigned to a teacher at the school the child is registered to attend. The teacher will have both onsite and
virtual students; so if at any time you are ready for your child to move to onsite learning, they will have the
same teacher they had during virtual.
While your child will be assigned to a classroom teacher at the campus they are registered and the
curriculum used will be the same as onsite students at the same pace, virtual learning will not look the same
as if your child were in the classroom. For the most part, students will not participate in Live classroom
activities nor will they interact with classmates or the teacher during the school day. However, there may be
times that it is necessary for a student to participate live. In these cases, the teacher will make appointments
with the virtual students in advance. Again, this will not be the norm. Everything students will need will be
placed in Google Classroom.
For elementary students, assignments will be given in Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies along with
Art, Music, PE and Library. For secondary students, assignments will be given for all classes they are
registered in. If your child receives support services in Dyslexia, English as a Second Language, Speech or
Special Education, they will continue to receive these services but may be provided in multiple formats.
Family Expectations
 Students are expected use of a single sign on (Clever) every day to have access to Google
Classroom and other instructional sites/apps needed
 Students will have the same requirements, assignments and assessments as on-site students.
These assignments and assessments will be completed and uploaded on time.
 Students will be graded the same as on-site students.
 Training videos will be posted for virtual students and parents by the school to insure clear
communication of expectations and use of platforms.
 Communication with your child’s teacher can be done via email, text and google classroom.
 If you need to speak with your child’s teacher or your child needs assistance, you may call the
school or email the teacher to schedule a time with the teacher.
 In all communication, please give the teacher 24 -48 hours to respond.
 When an assessment is completed, please allow your child to complete the assessment without
assistance from you or resources. This will give the teacher information on your child’s progress
and what needs to be done to support the child.
 Students will be required to come on-site for all state mandated testing.
Teacher Expectations
 Upload all resources, assignments and assessments the student will need for learning.
 Provide timely feedback to the student about the learning through Google Classroom.
