The Expanding National Capacity in PCOR through Training & Collaboration (ENACT) Network
was initially funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as a training
program in methods for patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR), with the main goals of:
● Strengthening capacity for PCOR at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI)
● Developing online training in fundamental and advanced PCOR methods
● Providing experiential training through a one-year fellowship
Over the life of the grant, all of these goals, and more, have been accomplished thanks to the
incredible contributions of the partnering institutions. Specifically, the ENACT Network has
developed 1) strong collaborative and mentoring relationships, which have been leveraged for
subsequent publications, funding applications, and other research activities; 2) an online
self-guided course in PCOR methods and writing a funding proposal (which ran remotely to over
100 participants), and 3) a Leadership Circle of 22 Fellows and other site representatives from
our partnering institutions.
The purpose of this newsletter is to describe the ongoing efforts of, and action items for
the ENACT Network, as we move past the initial AHRQ funding period. More specifically, a
number of important goals have been identified through continued discussion across the
Leadership Circle and through our first annual ENACT Face-to-Face Meeting, which was held at
the University of Puerto Rico on January 31, 2020. While much has changed across the world
since the meeting in January, the significant and ongoing challenges we face serve to
emphasize the importance of research guided by researchers, community partners, and other
stakeholders across MSIs and other institutions focused on health disparities.
