Dear Parents:
As another school year comes to a close, our thoughts become centered on
summer vacations, unwinding and spending more time enjoying family
activities. The summer months also offer a great opportunity for children to
engage in reading wonderful books that will enrich their academic experi-
ences.
While we recognize the importance of a relaxing vacation for students,
we must also stress the signicance of engaging them in the joys of reading.
Our school teacher librarians have updated this year’s list of recommended
books. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible. In
the fall, teachers will be asking students to participate in various activities to
demonstrate their involvement in summer reading.
Extra copies of the reading lists can be obtained from the building principals
and can also be found on our Web site at portnet.org. Your school or public
librarian can assist you in locating other excellent titles as well.
Have an enjoyable summer! We look forward to seeing you and your child
in the fall.
