Abstract
Regional Rural Banks plays an important role in the development of the country through
providing the basic financial services to the rural population. There are 45 RRBs in India.
Kerala Gramin Bank (KGB) is the one and only Regional Rural Bank of Kerala State. The
present study aims to evaluate the performance of KGB in terms of borrowings, deposits,
reserves and surplus, fixed assets, cash balance etc. The trend analysis and correlation
coefficient used to evaluate the financial performance of the bank. The financial credentials
of five year from 2015-2016 to 2019-2020 were used for the present study. The findings of
the study provide a clear idea about the poor level of financial performance of the gramin
bank. The bank suffering from loss for the last financial year. The total income of the bank
increasing in a decreasing manner and the expenditure increased year by year. It leads to
decrease the profitability of the bank continuously and suffering from loss during the
financial year 2019-2020. Increase in the NPA level and prevailing growth line productivity
of branches and employees also affect the performance of the bank adversely. The bank
officials and government should take initiatives to improve the level of performance and
ensure the rural development of the state.
