A Study of Darknet: A Platform for Illegal Business and Cybercrime

ABSTRACT
Viruses, Hacking, Fishing, Contract killers and Drugs: In the Darknet, trade in goods that
many people only know from crime novels is flourishing. But what is the Darknet really? Is
it the dark side of the Internet - or is it merely misused by criminals for their own purposes?
Without the necessary software or a certain browser configuration, the darknet is invisible for
ordinary Internet users.
Darknet or Dark web is the hidden and even dangerous part of the Internet where all sort of
shady business takes place.It is the web which cannot be accessed by the search engines, like
government private data, bank data, cloud data, personal data etc. These data are sensitive
and private, so kept out of reach. It is used to provide access to a specific group of people.
The darknet is often associated with the “Onion” top-level domain, whose websites are
referred to as “onion sites” and are reachable via “Tor“ network anonymously.
