Basic Knowledge
Fuel – Type and location of fuel fill
Vehicle Operation – The member wishing to be qualified must be able to demonstrate the following
knowledge regarding the vehicle operation.
Ability to start the apparatus and drive it in a safe manner
On spot Chain operation
Dash gauges
Jake Brake (Engine Brake)
Engine High Idle
Emergency Warning systems (Warning Lights, mechanical and electronic siren, Arrow)
Engage and disengage the generator Properly
Properly deploys wheel chocks
Regeneration Process – The member wishing to be qualified must be able to explain the regeneration
process as well as indicators that it needs to be done.
Apparatus Positioning – The member wishing to be qualified must be able to demonstrate knowledge
regarding basic apparatus positioning.
House fires
Car accidents
Wires down calls
Commercial Buildings
Radios – The member wishing to be qualified must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge of
the radio systems on the apparatus
Mobile radios
o Demonstrate knowledge of how to change the radio channels
o Demonstrate knowledge of changing zones for mutual aid
o Demonstrate knowledge of what can happen if one of the radios is on scan
Portable radios
o Understand the operation and location of the drivers portable
o Understands the charger indicator light and proper radio placement in the charger
Knox box
o How is the Knox box activated
o How is the key removed
Light tower Operation – The member wishing to be qualified must be able to properly deploy and stow
the light tower
