The Common Application - Cheat Sheet
You must take to following steps when completing The Common Application to
ensure that your counselor can complete the process for you, and for your
recommenders to be able to add their recommendations!
1. You will begin your Common Application by going to
apply.commonapp.org. When you are prompted about your high
school in the education section, add: Herbert Hoover High School
(Make sure you put this entire school name)
2. You must ADD at least 1 college to your application in order for
it to link to Naviance.
3. You will need to sign The Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA) waiver, which you get to by clicking on one of the
colleges that you added.
4. After # 1- #3 is completed, you must go into Naviance and link to
the Common App. Go to https://clever.com/in/sdusd/. Once you
are logged in, go to the “Colleges” tab. Then, click “Colleges I’m
applying to” link and add your common app college.
5. To complete linking Common App with Naviance, you will enter
the same email address you used in the Common App. The email
address you used in Common App and the email address you
have in your Naviance profile MUST MATCH. To add your email,
go to the “About Me” tab, then “My Account”, then the “edit” button
in the “Contacts” section.
6. Make sure your date of birth is entered correctly in Common App.
It should match what we have on record for you in Naviance.
